Lets see how long before the whole privacy first approach gets dropped. I am betting 1 quarter of negative growth and privacy goes out of the window

Apple’s overpriced phones have quite a high profit margin; surely they could absorb most of the tariff costs while still making a profit? Or would that not be greedy enough for them?

IIRC the profit margins are no longer even close to what they used to be. They’re now estimated to cost between 400 and 700 dollars to make depending on the specs. Used to be what, 75 dollars?

The fact is, the hardware side is economically pretty comparable to high end Android devices. Those are going to go up in price and so are iPhones.

Google and Apple of course have the app store fees as a sweet source of income, so they have an advantage compared to Samsung.

Why would they absorb the tariffs? iPhone users will just pay the higher prices or buy one overseas

I hope Tim Apple got at least a small hard on while licking Trump’s shoes. That would be unfair for a $million.

Apple is cooked. Not only are they going to get decimated in China, but they are going to see demand destruction in the US due to tariffs. And neither Trump nor Xi cares about Apple.

I mean, you’re not wrong, but the same applies to all phone manufacturers. Samsung, Pixel, etc. are going to see similar price hikes due to tariffs in the US, and a similar drop in demand in China as the population there moves to Chinese manufacturers. I’m not sure why you’re singling out Apple.

You don’t understand. Chinese companies have been preparing for this for almost a decade now thanks to US policies. Here’s manufacturing locations just for Moto.

        https://motosmartphones.com/where-are-motorola-phones-made/

How much is it really made in Brazil? Enough to by pass the tariffs.

This is transhipment. China has been building an enormous transhipment network with those countries heavily dependent on Chinese heavy machinery and services. They expected this, they prepared for this. It’s the US companies that tried to obey their own countries rules that are susceptible. Even Samsung has been working with China to create these networks. Soon, I would estimate, Apple will as well. The problem is, if you thought Tik Tok was a national security issue, forcing every US company to use Chinese logistics to fight your own countries tariffs…

Yes, but any country that counter tariffs the US makes Apple products more expensive while other (non us based) companies don’t have that problem.

Pretty sure the country of origin for Apple products isn’t the US anyway. They’d be coming from China, India, etc. Reciprocal tariffs on the US should have no effect on Apple products sold in other countries.
