AlolanYoda@mander.xyzto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Use ‘a’ when the word starts with a _consonant sound_, and ‘an’ when it starts with a _vowel sound_2·2 months agoYou just wanted to use an unique example. It’s a honest mistake.
And yet never implemented! Good guy Sony getting a patent so nobody else will do this
The nazis modeled a lot of their Reich on the Roman state (the eagle iconography was used by both). The Roman salute was just something else they took from their idea of the Roman empire
So I’m with you, I have no idea how “it’s a roman salute” is supposed to make anything better
You know, as someone outside the US, I was pretty confident in this election. Harris seemed like a candidate that could stand against Trump in a way that Hillary Clinton never was. I had stopped worrying and even thought the people here were being dramatic in thinking Trump was actually going to get reelected.
Well, there goes that…
Based on having had to read that comment I would say we’re already in the bad place

I would assume that if they want to make the world a better place, they admit that their actions have long-reaching impact, which is not really a feature of nihilism, optimistic or not
But I’m not an expert, do what you want

AlolanYoda@mander.xyzto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: About The Sad bastard Cookbook, when time, energy, money, or skill is preventing someone from cooking their own meals!2·8 months agoSame here. Last time this was shared I found a single recipe kind of interesting, but not enough for me to actually memorize what it was.
Thinking back, it was probably the Mac and Cheese one, and I had already wanted to try to make it anyway (it’s not a very common dish in my country, or at least my circle)
AlolanYoda@mander.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What stupidly easy tech solution do people gloss over all of the time?1·8 months agoChatGPT can be super useful, but I’m kind of worried about people learning to use it exclusively.
I tried helping a PhD student assemble a set up for measuring transistors. He used ChatGPT to do all the code for the software control (python), which is fine, even if he relied on it to fix every single part of his code when a quick trip to the reference manuals of the equipments would solve the problem instantly.
At a certain point I realized I maybe had misunderstood his set up design and asked him “wait, which device do you want to connect to your gate? Which terminal even is the gate?”
And I kid you not, the dude asked ChatGPT which terminal in his device was the gate
(he also reeked of weed so there’s that)
I have seen variations on this online for a long time, and this has always baffled me: do strangers in America really go up to random people who are speaking foreign languages and tell them “you are in X, speak Xese”, a language they may or may not speak? Even among people who share their native language?
