I can’t explain this
Leaving the instance or blocking someone isn’t transphobic, but not respecting their pronouns is. It’s that simple.
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Cost of Doing Business Rule4·6 months agoHate to say that video has been on my mind pretty much constantly these last 6 or so months…
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the last skill you learned and how?10·6 months agoProbably proper knife skills. I’ve always been pretty good with a knife, but I’ve been taking my time to really refine the skill as I do a lot of cooking for large groups so speed is extremely useful. I honestly learnt a lot of it indirectly by just watching how chefs use them, but for the theory and all that I started with Lan Lam’s video on knife skills over at the America’s Test Kitchen yt channel.
I’m about to be going to an event where I’ll be cooking nearly a thousand meals a day for three days, so I’m going to be putting it to the test. The one nice thing is we’ll have a team of volunteers to help with ingredient prep, so it should be okay but daunting none the less.

Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it a reasonable expectation to check peoples profiles when commenting on their comments to ensure I am pronouning them correctly?0·7 months agoThat’s a pretty reasonable misunderstanding, I don’t speak for anyone but myself but generally as long as there’s no malice involved I’m not upset by an accidental misgendering.
I’m on jerboa too and didn’t even know there were specific pronouns on accounts, I just chucked mine in my bio.

Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Non-binary Scrubbing Parent Rule0·7 months agoHell yeah, I can get behind this. I can’t comment on the O-Cedar as I can’t get them here and information online is sparse, but the equivalent I get in Australia is made from cellulose and is biodegradable,
apparentlysadly not including the scourer (after some digging it’s coated in polyurethane).
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Non-binary Scrubbing Parent Rule2·7 months agoProtip: Don’t get the scrub daddy, the O-Cedar Scrunge is the highest rated sponge by virtually every chef and test kitchen for a reason, it’s non-scratching but has one of the best scourers ever and will clean stuff up like magic compared to some inferior brands.
If you’re an Australian like me, you can get the Vileda Pur Active which is seemingly identical (I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same company).
OH YARN I don’t have my glasses and I couldn’t work out how someone was knitting with a yam
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If gravity is a particle... How come it can escape a black hole? 🤔0·8 months agoIf that was the case, we would already have a quantum theory of gravity. The fact that “gravitons” (here I mean the particles of a second quantisation of GR) can interact with themselves makes the theory almost completely useless.
It’s technically possible to write down such a theory, but the only way to get results out of it is to first perform an infinite number of experiments.
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If gravity is a particle... How come it can escape a black hole? 🤔0·8 months agoAlmost none of this applies in the case of something like loop quantum gravity, which I understand very little of but I don’t believe it’s possible to discuss it using the language of QFT like I have above.
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If gravity is a particle... How come it can escape a black hole? 🤔0·8 months agoI briefly worked in this area of physics, and it’s complicated and depends on your definition of a particle and which quantum gravity model you’re talking about.
To simplify things you can just ask the same thing about non-quantum gravity. Why does gravity escape the black hole? The painfully mundane answer is that the black hole is gravity, it’s not escaping itself. Gravitational waves can’t be emitted from inside the black hole but that’s because those are a form of radiation and not the structure of spacetime.
This is specifically important because even quantum gravity still has this distinction. Particles belong to a field and are excitations of it, the gravitational field itself is not made of those particles. The force associated with that field is mediated by gravitons, but what that really means is complicated and honestly possibly just the result of a cool mathematical trick. It also comes with a bunch of crazy behaviour where you have particles that can break the laws of physics by just kinda doing it so quickly that nature blinks and misses it.
The point is, the quantum gravitational field is enough for the black hole to do its job when objects come by, gravitons don’t actually need to escape, though the are involved in complicated ways.
Hard agree, unsubscribed from real engineering the moment I realised they made ads without ever declaring it. It’s literally just propaganda at this point
Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are the best (free) math resources out there?4·8 months agoIf you’re looking for books, then it depends on what field you want to study. Generally just I’d search for recommended textbooks for that field and then I’d definitely buy it and wouldn’t just download it from libgen.is

Sasha [They/Them]@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Ahh... hearing programmer audiobooks before sleep feels relaxing0·8 months agoNow I’m wondering, surely someone has already made a language that’s designed to read like scripture?
The phrase “we aren’t free until we’re all free” applies to animals as much as humans, and thinking otherwise is straight up bigotry. That so few extend leftist thought to the rest of the living world is a travesty, if you’ve managed to come around to leftist thinking then you’ve absolutely been capable of challenging your pre-conceived biases and this is just another step in that process.
All that said, I’m not one to judge people for not agreeing with this. It took me an exceptionally long time and the right circumstances to finally reassess my reasoning and to realise it was absurdly flawed, hypocritical and informed by propaganda.
