Tilgare@lemmy.worldto Memes@lemmy.ml•I'm liking all the political memes today, but some things are too important to ignore2·22 days agoAn expensive, scattershot-style experiment I guess. It’s certainly… a choice. But you’re right I’m sure.
I’m glad to see Mandalorian getting a film for sure. And in the course of this discussion, I have discovered Skeleton Crew and if it’s a Mando spinoff, I’ll certainly have to watch that now.
Yeah, precisely. That’s what this would be, built into your headphone case. You never have one without the other.
I mean, this wouldn’t be all that stupid imo. Add some Apple watch functionality like fitness detection and easy syncing between phone and iPod Nano Buds, this would be a solid addition to a runner’s arsenal leaving no need to carry your $1000 phone on a run. Suppose you could use your watch for that and leave the case at home though. But more options aren’t a bad thing, not everyone has or wants a watch.

But given this, I guess it was Marvel Studios that took the lesson, and Lucas Film decided to take the opposite approach. 😶🌫️
It won’t hit all at once for a lot of different reasons. Retailers’ back stock is not subject to tariff because it has already been imported. Raw material lead times for products assembled in the US will be longer than products imported ready for store shelves. Apple recently made the news for importing planefuls of iPhones the weekend before the tariff was applied. Smaller businesses won’t be able to do stuff like that, but big corporations will have likely done similar things to soften/slow price increases. And, until additional duties go into effect worldwide, lots of companies had already diversified their manufacturing out of China for US-bound products because of the already existing tariffs from Trump’s first term.
But once the companies have to pay the higher price, so will we all.
Definitely, at least with this Dell laptop circa 2007 - I didn’t want to cause a fire and iirc, the battery was already trashed at its EOL. Pulling the battery at least let me power on the laptop without any risk from having the battery inserted.
I’m moving soon and was packing up my office closet. Found my old college laptop and figured I better make sure nothing was stored on it before I tossed it. Pulled the removable battery (‼️⁉️) out and plugged in the power adapter. I couldn’t believe that it started Windows XP off of spinning rust faster than any modern device I own. They really don’t make them like they used to.

I’ll probably drag it out for a while by refusing to update the app and server… Might be able to make it work with Tailscale as others have suggested.
In the past I’ve paid for a month or two when I wanted to download to my devices remotely (and I think that’s the singular feature that I’ve ever cared about in the Plex pass). But to take features away and then try and charge me for them is a bridge too far, I can’t support that bad behavior.
Tilgare@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex is locking remote streaming behind a subscription in AprilEnglish0·2 months agoBut what infrastructure does this feature require? I’m direct connecting to my own personal server with perhaps credential handling and a handshake handled by Plex servers to connect. None of the media is passing through their servers - or it shouldn’t be if it is.

But then it is certainly the need for a jailbroken console that has Sony filing a DMCA. Sony has historically been ridiculously controlling and tight with their console software… I fortunately was pretty in the know and didn’t upgrade my PSP software beyond the version range for running exploits - but there were periods of months where no progress was ever made on future versions. It was a very long, hard fought cat and mouse game. And another example, mod chip makers for PS3/4/5 have been repeatedly taken to court and dismantled by Sony.
Tilgare@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Sony just axed the 60fps Bloodborne mod with a DMCA takedownEnglish0·3 months agoBloodborne is a PS4 game and the mod used a PC emulator, did it not? That’ll be why right there.
Yes, true, but irrelevant in this case.
I understand what they’re trying to do - bring attention to total cost of ownership and the price disparity between petrol and electricity. It’s clearly marked and impossible to miss when you’re on the website speccing out a car, so it’s maybe a little initially deceptive, but not scummy imo. But it also leads to screenshots like this…
(laughs in European)
She’s not a teacher, shes in the library. But - she is allowed absolutely zero ot. She’s already had her time card adjusted on days that she worked early or late to match her scheduled hours. And they only pay her for 7 hours a day, but it’s an 8 hour work day and she hasn’t once had the time to take a hour for lunch.
What even IS the recourse when it’s not a comproration, but the government that is stealing your wages? 🤷 I think I’m more upset about it all than she is, because the quality of life is way higher than her last job. And so I’ll just keep it all to myself.

My wife got her first pay check last week at her new job in a US school district. I was certain something was wrong when it came in, but the pay stub did nothing to show the breakdown of hours, rate, etc. She finally got a response today - and I’ve learned that school breaks are NOT PTO. She gets zero PTO she can take during the school year, and while frustrating not to be able to choose when you take your time off, I assumed that was just because she gets the summer off. But apparently she gets no PTO AND takes 71 days out of the year off without pay, effectively. So they do you the favor of paying you over 12 months, but you still only get paid for hours worked. The rate of pay seemed like it would be a pay raise on the surface, but I never anticipated needing to dock it by 20%.
Zero PTO. Just the perks of American life.
Tilgare@lemmy.worldto 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Hey late-stage capitruleism, how's it going? Oh cool even worse then6·9 months agoI actually somehow didn’t fully process that it didn’t say “ad free”, but rather “non-personalized ads”. Wtf. €7 and you still get ads? Insanity. This is the sort of site I would never return to again.
I filled up my storage and now I just get download failed notifications every morning. Happy accident, but now I won’t ever empty my storage again.
