The comment thus far are a little oversimplified… Yes, the feed is just an XML document, same as the HTML page, but there are several relevant differences. Yes, in theory, one could use server logs to determine which IP addresses make which requests for what documents, but in practice… Making things run and spying on people tend to be two different departments. With HTML, unless you block all javascript and have no images load, tracking javascript and tracking pixels will be invoked by your browser and those DO go to the tracking you department. If you hit a webpage it is FAR more likely that data goes somewhere for you to be spied on than just downloading an RSS feed (although individual items in the RSS feed may well have tracking pixels).
Fuck lemmy.world. Fuck flyingsquid. 🖕
I feel like this is an insult to Craig, who never spied on me or did a cringe gold chain UFC latin shirt thing to feign being a real boy.
Even then, the Alexa device has wifi and bluetooth. It’s common these days to use the wifi MAC and whatever the bluetooth equivalent is to resolve location sans GPS. If you don’t have all of the perfect optout_nomap_etc strings on your router SSIDs, they can use your own router MAC legally, even, and failing that (if they actually obey the law) they’ll just use your neighbor’s wifi MAC.

Oh, there are sooo many options now, I’m sure many gaming handhelds are 100% up to date Pixel-level. I was just saying as per existing inventory in the world, if you just pick up something random… it gonna have KitKat potentially…
Yeah, I mean, there are other ways, like STube on Android, which I think is a one man band but is always faster, but it’s not even so much about even just watching, Freetube is a great overall management experience for keeping track sans Google like nothing else with history and export et al across all platforms basically. I’m constantly impressed by them.
I think OP is referencing new “retro” handhelds that run Android (although I bet a lot run KitKat or something insane, so no modern encryption/https)
Yes! The Freetube team are real heroes, and really keep up with the cat and mouse of it all at S-tier on all fronts, including even getting updates into flathub promptly, which not every project is good about.
Pika Backup does backups. For testing Windows, you’ll want to run a VM, QEMU is best for that (There’s a KDE wrapper I forget the name of for it with a better GUI) but you can probably do some level of testing running your app with Wine. You can run Excel with Wine (also the Office365 web Excel runs in browser)
Wow, you’re deep!
As a worker with real skills, I stand by my judgement of you leeches.
