  • I genereally agree, but I feel some nuance is missing: That is assuming a “harmful” environment is total toxicity and something you can just leave with no ill effects.

Sometimes the environment that hurts you is normal-ish and even “nice”, but you personally are sensitive to some aspects of it, making it exhausting. It gives you purpose and happiness and you may not want to leave it.

Sometimes you have to stick to a harsh job because you have responsibilities. I’d rather take reasonably harmless medicine like melatonin and beta blockers to reduce the effects of stress and have a fulfilling life raising and supporting my kids, than saying “Work and life makes dad sad. I need to move to Spain and be a bartender at a beach. Sorry kids, I’m sure someone will find you a foster home bye.”

  • The medication stigma is based on basically magic thinking: That medicine is alien, external, unnatural while the human body is pure and natural. Therefore any difference between medicated and unmedicated is artificial and caused by the medicine.

No, the body is fucking dropping terror chemicals in my bloodstream. It is changing my personality from easygoing and outgoing to snippy and reclusive. The body is malfunctioning and changing my personality for the worse.

The medicine is reducing the amount and effectiveness of the body’s excess of terror chemicals. It restores normality.

  • People here complain about tankies and ban the shit out of them if they start defending dictators so you will naturally see only the anti side.

People on lemmy.world complain about tankies, and tankies complain about being yelled at for merely supporting deportations, murder, terror bombings and crimes against humanity.

People on lemmy.ml/memes complain about being called tankes to other tankies. They agree that every country between USA and Moscow is a puppet state of the CIA and Putler did nothing wrong. Back pats and handjobs all around.

Follow all three for a good time!

  • I oversimplified a bit! Sorry!

Words always shift over time and borders. The words “recu” and “receive/receipt” are pretty close and used to be closer. To be more accurate it was “receite” when they adopted it from French. Compared to Latin “recepta” which has a hard P in it. So adding “P” from Latin to the spelling as “receipt” but leaving the pronunciation as Anglo-French “receite” was the most silly part.

  • English is a hilarious mess. The word “receite” originated from Latin but came to England through France at which point it had mutated to modern pronunciation as “recu”, so they shoved a few extra and silent letters in there and spelled it “receipt” to pretend they got it from Latin even though they kept pronouncing it more French.

  • I always imagined travelling back in time 100 years and trying to explain our tech.

-“We have personal communicators available at all times, that we can use to instantly communicate with anyone on Earth.”

-“Wow! But I guess language barriers make it impossible?”

-'No, actually. A surprising amount of people in the world understand English. Also, we have instant translators in our communicators. I could contact someone in China right now and have a conversation about anything."

-“Incredible!! What sort of topics do you talk to them about?”

-“…I don’t. It’s kinda impolite to just start talking to strangers. I mostly talk to old friends from school. And my family.”
